IMM Directorate of Libraries and Museums consists of two separate departments: libraries and museums. The Atatürk Library building, which was used as the administrative center of the Directorate of Libraries and Museums, was built by Koç Foundation in 1973 as a memory of the 50th anniversary of the Republic on Sedat Hakkı Eldem’s architectural project, and has been used as a library since 1981. In 1995, mobile buses were established by buying 5 buses from İ.E.T.T. In 1997, midibuses were purchased and the interior arrangements were made as a library. Each mobile library has around 3,000 books and each bus serves in 20 different locations, especially in the neighborhoods we call the suburbs of the city. In total, this service reaches 100 different locations. These mobile libraries stand in two separate places each day before and after noon, and provide books to their members, and open doors to all those who wish to benefit from them. Eyup, Umraniye (2), Kartal (2) and Tuzla have provided a total of 8 branch libraries for the service of Istanbulites.
